By registering for, and using, MyMSD you accept the Terms of Use.

Put simply:
- We collect information through MyMSD that helps us assess what assistance you can get, improve your experience in MyMSD, or identify suspicious activity.
- We may share or compare information you give us with other Government agencies.
- We aim to keep your personal information as secure as possible.
- You have the right to see your information and ask for it to be corrected.
We expect you to:
- Keep your login details secure and information safe.
- Make sure the information you give us is true and correct.
- Read the communication we send you by email, SMS text and letter.

MyMSD – Terms of Use
Please read these Terms of Use carefully before you use MyMSD
- 1. MyMSD is a web application owned and operated by the Ministry of Social Development (“the Ministry”, we, us, our).
- 2. We may change the content on MyMSD from time to time.
- 3. We may change these Terms of Use from time to time. We’ll post any changes on MyMSD. Continuing to use MyMSD after the changes will be considered as acceptance of the changed Terms of Use. If you have questions about the Terms of Use please get in touch.
Using MyMSD
- 4. To use MyMSD you need to create an account.
- 5. You can create an account at my.msd.govt.nzThis link opens in a new browser tab or window by supplying the information requested (Client Number and date of birth). Follow the instructions to help you to complete your registration securely.
- 6. We can’t guarantee that MyMSD will be available at all times. It, or certain features, may be unavailable for maintenance reasons, due to your internet or telecommunications provider or other events we can’t control. If this means you can’t open a letter or complete a required action (like telling us your wages) you can call us on 0800 559 009.
Your responsibilities
- 7. If you’re a registered MyMSD user, you have the following responsibilities:
- • Keep your login information secure. You must not supply your login details to anyone, even if they look like they may be associated with MSD. Agents or other people acting on your behalf can’t use MyMSD and you should not supply them with your login details.
- • Choose a password/PIN that can’t be easily guessed, keep it safe and don’t share it with anyone. We don’t have access to your password/PIN and we’ll never ask for them.
- • If you think someone knows your login information, you must immediately:
- • change your password/PIN, and
- • tell us by calling 0800 559 009.
- • Keep your contact details up-to-date.
- • Make sure you log out of your MyMSD session once you’re done, especially if you’re using a shared device or public computer.
- • If you’re using a shared device or public computer don’t select “Make PIN-only login available on this device” when you log into MyMSD.
- • You must not intentionally interfere with the operation of MyMSD, or impose an unreasonable load on the service.
- • You must read all correspondence from us. See ‘contacting you’ below for the ways we may contact you.
Contacting you
- 8. Keep your contact details up-to-date.
- 9. We may email or send SMS messages to you directly. For example, you may be sent:
- • Activation codes or temporary login for MyMSD (when you request these)
- • Information about the MyMSD web application
- • Security notifications
- • Emails or SMS messages to tell you when you have letters to read in MyMSD
- • Information about products and services from the Ministry, and
- • Information about changes to the law or policy changes.
- 10. We take all reasonable steps to make sure emails and SMS messages have the highest chance of successful delivery, but we can’t be held responsible for non-delivery because of things we can’t control, like incorrect or out-of-date email address or mobile number or network outages.
- 11. You can change your postal setting from the ‘My letters’ page. You can choose to turn off most postal mail and get emails when you have a new letter in MyMSD, or you can choose to keep postal mail on. By accepting these Terms of Use, you agree that the Ministry may use the settings in place at that time.
Information provided or submitted on MyMSD
- 12. We do our best to make sure the most up-to-date information is available on MyMSD, however if there is a change in your situation you might not see these straight away in MyMSD. This means the information still appearing is subject to change.
- 13. We will post some of your letters in MyMSD. These letters will be taken to have been received by you when they enter the MyMSD information system under section 11(a) of the Electronic Transactions Act 2002 (or subsequent legislation to this effect). You’ll receive an email or SMS message to let you know you have mail to view.
- 14. When you submit information through MyMSD to us, you need to:
- • fill in all the required information
- • make sure the information you supply is true and correct, and
- • confirm the information you are sending is true and correct before submitting.
- 15. Any information you provide through MyMSD will be used to update your record and to help provide you with correct financial assistance and other services.
- 16. We may share or compare information you give us with other Government agencies.
Data collected on MyMSD use
- 17. The Ministry will collect information about your use of MyMSD to help us improve the services provided by the Ministry and to investigate any dispute you have with us. This includes:
- • your IP address
- • any search terms you used
- • the pages you access on our site and the links you click on
- • the date and time you visit the site
- • the referring site (if any) through which you click through to this site
- • your operating system
- • the type of device and web browser you use
- • other incidental matters such as screen resolution.
Your obligations under the Social Security Act

Your privacy
- 19. The Ministry’s Privacy Statement applies to the MyMSD web application.

Cookies
- 20. We use Cookies to authenticate and use specific user information in MyMSD. Cookies are small text files that are placed in your browser by the websites you visit.
- 21. Your browser setting must be able to accept Cookies to use MyMSD.
- 22. Using a Private Browsing setting will not affect your ability to use MyMSD however you may be sent an activation code to confirm your identity.
Security
- 23. The Ministry has systems and procedures in place to prevent loss, unlawful access, use, modification, disclosure or other misuse of your information, consistent with good practice and as required by relevant law and policy. Particular care has been taken to make sure that only certain people with specific roles and authorised access levels are able to view your identity and transaction-related information.
- 24. You must not create software designed to interact with MyMSD or any of the Ministry’s systems.
